If the customer does not have enough goods to load in a fully loaded container, the customer arranges with the consolidator to order the cargo.
This type of shipment is called an LCL shipment. The consolidator arranges a full container (FCL) with the primary shipping carrier and combines the shipments of other shippers.
This means that a shipper who orders a full container receives goods from different shippers and combines all those goods into one container as a Fully Loaded Container – FCL. Shippers sort these goods at the destination or at the transshipment point, which are intended for different consignees at different ports.
